Phnom Penh, April 7, 2026 — H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, met with a World Bank delegation led by Country Manager Ms. Tania Meyer to discuss the Cambodia Water Security Compact, a strategic framework to strengthen water security for 2026–2030.
The Compact outlines a unified national vision built on three pillars—Water for People, Water for Food, and Water for Planet—aligned with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy and long-term development goals.

Minister Vanndy expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for cross-sectoral coordination and noting that countries pursuing industrialization, including Cambodia, will face rising water demand.
“Tariff structures are constraining private sector investment in water services, underscoring the need for concessional financing and more flexible funding approaches,” he said.

Ms. Tania Meyer reaffirmed the World Bank’s continued support, highlighting the Compact as a platform to reaffirm commitments and bring together partners, including the private sector, to advance water security.
Both sides will deepen collaboration, including better integration of key stakeholders and mobilization of concessional financing, with the World Bank to share insights from upcoming international discussions.
